Social Graces

I consider myself to be a very friendly person. I also like to think that I am well mannered. With this is mind, I have to say that I just don't understand why people can be unfriendly. I work in a public school and I can't tell you how many times I have passed someone in the hall and said hello to them with absolutely NO RESPONSE! How hard is is to be respectful and simply say hello.

I will say that there are many in my school who will say hello, share a smile and just make you feel good just to see happy people!

Speaking of school. I was home on Thursday sick. I spent most of the day in bed watching TV. I had a bit of a fever and an awful headache. I woke up on Friday feeling just fine and I am looking forward to my weekend.

I was supposed to bring the sweater I made for my great niece to her on Thursday but I am sure my niece wouldn't have liked it if I came by sick! I dropped it off after school on Friday. Luckily it is still a bit too big for her. I was worried that it would be too small.

Enjoy your weekend.

take care,
Dawn

Glad you're on the road to feeling more like YOU, Dawn. About friendly: I agree that you are. What about all the bloggers who never respond to your comments?

First of all, I am happy you are feeling better.....Yes, I find many people to be even hostile sometimes....why? I don't get it either.....

It takes the same amount of energy to be ugly as it does to be nice. So why would you not use it for a better cause. Some people are just born that way and we have to try and deal with it. I love people and try to be as nice as I can even to those I really do not care for.

And while we're talking manners, whatever happened to "Please" and "Thank You". Whenever someone does something, I automatically say "Thank You", but more and more, I encounter people who don't. In a store if you hold the door open or move a cart for someone, it is amazing how many don't even acknowledge you. I'll bet their mama's are sure proud of them!

Dawn, you just asked the million dollar question. I don't understand it, either. When you figure it out, let me know because it really is unnerving to have people treat kindness that way. How hard is it to smile back? Not very. And it pays big dividends.

XO,

Sheila :-)

Well first of all let me say "thank you" for such a thoughtful and entertaining blog. I love stopping by to see whats new. I do not have a blog of my own, what would I write about and besides, I have not a clue how I would go about making one. Anyways, "Please" keep up the good work. dont let the bad manners of others rub off on you. You might not be aware of why a person did not respond in a favorable way to your greeting but you just might have made their day without even knowing it....Keep Smiling, and knitting, you do beautiful work. Oh Dawn, I couldn't agree with you more! How hard is it to say "hello"?!! Even when I'm feeling my most awful, I'm able to manage a smile for someone else.

And all that being said, my boys' lack of ability to speak to people horrifies me because I know they come across seeming rude. They don't mean to be rude, but they are both so unbelievably shy that they almost never can muster up a response when someone talks to them. Believe me, it's something we've been working on for years. They were both involved in a program at school last year to help them with their self-confidence in "using their voices"...but funding was cut for that program. Actually, Gray is having so many problems with being about to speak up that it's affecting the quality of his life, so he's going to start seeing a child psychologist. I realize their problems are different from just being unfriendly, but I worry that people don't realize that, you know.

Anyway, Dawn, despite all the impolite people, you keep smiling and being your wonderful friendly self...I'll bet you have no idea how very happy you make so many people. And I speak from experience...you have a true gift for making me happy. :)

Hi Dawn
I'm sorry you were sick but happy that you are feeling better for the weekend. Yes better that you didn't go visiing while you were feeling off. You wouldn't want anyone else catching and hopefully everyone else at your place is well.

I don't know how people can be so rude...hmmmm..

I would have loved to have seen the sweater...
hope you had a good weekend...
our weather has been sooo nice...yesterday was so sunny today we're having some rain.

have a good week

We have some people like that where I work, too. I always want to ask them what their deal is.

I'm glad you're feeling better. There is no school here tomorrow.

Hi Dawn, I've really never understood why people can seem so unfriendly at times. A kind word and a smile take so little and yet can cause a lot of happiness in someone's day.

So sorry to hear that you weren't well, but hope you weren't too sick to enjoy your day at home taking it easy.

So glad that the sweater has some growing room in it!
