For school supply shopping that is! I went to Staples and bought my teacher allotment just can't believe all the money I saved. I guess saved isn't' the best word because I wouldn't have bought this much to begin with. I should say, I can't believe how little money this cost me. I even went back to another store yesterday and bought more.
It saddens me to see how the schools are forced to cut so much each and every year. When I can find deals like this for my classroom I am thrilled. I remember two years ago there were no pencils left to be found. Glue sticks are like gold! I ask each child to bring almost nothing! During the course of the year I might ask for tissue, paper towels etc., but no child has to send in supplies.

Oh Dawn, you're so sweet! You really should ask for more "donations" from the kids' families though. Don't make it obligatory or anything, but just ask if anyone wants to donate pencils or glue sticks or whatever it is you need. I always do this when the teachers ask...it makes me feel better, because I can't come in to volunteer in the classroom because of the other kids I've had at home. I'll bet there are other parents out there who would love to help out, too! It's such a shame that teachers who are already paid too little have to dip so deeply into their own pockets to pay for school supplies!

Wow. You certainly are a rarity in the classroom these days. I know that when I went to school, we did have our own supplies to bring in, but they were the supplies for our personal use. The teachers provided the "communal use" items, like the tissue, paper towels, etc.
You found your calling. I hope my kids get someone like you to guide them this coming school year.

what a great lady you are! it is sad how supplies are cut from the budget. even kleenex is savored in the classrooms I work in. I am glad you were able to spend just a little money in the long run!
