Terri Fox will lead a “spirited” tour of the resting place of Cape Cod's only Medal of Honor recipient as well as sea captains and other early residents of Dennis at 10 a.m., Thursday, July 16. A $3 donation is suggested for the cemetery upkeep. The rain date for this Dennis Historical Society event is Sunday, July 19, at 2 p.m.This is what the paper said, prompting an email from my sister saying she couldn't get to the cemetery in time to spruce things up. So, this morning Tim and I went to a local garden shop and bought some geraniums. After a little bit of weeding I planted the flowers and tidied things up. While I was weeding an "older" woman came over and said, "hello, Dawn!". I recognized her face, but not her name. She introduced herself and we chatted about our family histories.
I also came across the person giving the tour tomorrow and she said that my dad was going to be mentioned. He wasn't a sea captain but he was a well loved member of the town! Most people knew my father by his nickname, Tex. Tim was sure to tell the ladies we met today that his middle name is Allen, after the grandfather he never met. My mom told me years ago that my father got the nickname Tex when he was a little boy and used to deliver newspapers by horse.
I would love to go on this tour tomorrow, but Tim has an appointment that I need to get him to. Maybe I could sneak a couple of minutes in!
take care,
Dawn

Great job, Dawn. On all counts!
I think this tour sounds so interesting. I wish you could go, too. The geraniums looks so nice. I like your daddy's grave marker. The cemetery where my daddy is buried only allows the markers that are flat. I like this kind much better.
Tell Tim good luck with the braces tomorrow. Is he going to pose for a picture?
This tour does sound interesting Dawn. I hope you can get there even just for a little while. Hope your summer is going great!
Hooray, you posted and it's a good one. I Love this Dawn. Tim is so cute and the grave looks very nice. My parents were cremated but we do have a flat marker for them at my sister's home here on the mountain.
The newspaper article is interesting and your meeting the woman at the grave is such a memory for you and Tim. I bet your dad was quite a guy.
I have truly missed visiting you Dawn. Not that I have had a lot of time to visit so far this summer. LOL. We have been gone so much lately. We leave again tomorrow for 10 days. a visit to an aging aunt and a trip to Kansas City for a baseball game with 20 or so of Bill's cyber friends from a sports forum he has been doing for about 20 years. His sister lives there so another visit with them as well. Today I am packing 'again.'
Have a wonderful day.
Love ya, Jeanne
Wow, that sounds really interesting, Dawn...hope you get a chance to go! Happy weekend ahead to you all :o) ((HUGS))
Hi Dawn
hmmmm...I read your post and wondered what in the world that Beverly was talking about...your cupcakes getting stale. I thought I'd missed something...and then it dawned on me..oh get that pun!!...that it was you that I had been missing. It HAS been a while and those cupcakes sure WERE stale!
Isn't that going to be a lovely tour. Geez..its too bad you can't go but maybe you could get there for a few minutes. Tim looks very proud...*s*.. nice pictures.
have a lovely weekend...
Judi
I'm glad you topped those cupcakes!
Sorry that you aren't able to get to hear the part about your dad.
