Tyring my hand at digital scrapping

I have tried this a couple of times now. I've bought and collected a few sets and really don't know how to start. I figured the best way would be to scraplift. That's exactly what I did. I bought a
kit from
Digital Design Essentials . I copied a layout from justmp . I still have a long way to go but I'm happy with the way the page turned out.

Mackenzie

Yesterday I got to baby-sit for Mackenzie for a couple of hours. I was a little worried for a while. The last few times I've been to visit her and I picked her up to hold her she just cried and cried. I was beginning to take it personally! You can imagine my apprehension when Brittainy dropped her off. All was good. She didn't cry. We watched a little Elmo and then the Wiggles. Mackenzie turned 5 months old yesterday and I am amazed at how quickly the time is going by! I did manage to get my camera out for a few pictures. Look at those eyes. She just sparkles!!!

The Legend of Princess Scargo

I took a drive to Scargo tower this afternoon. I wanted pictures for a circle journal project that I am working on. My goodnesses it was cold, particularly at the top of the tower. I wanted to get some pictures of the tower and the lake. Here is the story of Princess Scargo

Once, the beautiful Princess Scargo, lived along the Dennis shores. She was part of the Bobuset tribe, lead by her father Sagem. One day, a brave young runner from a faraway tribe happened to espy the Princess. At once, the two fell madly in love.
To show his devotion, the brave gave the Princess a beautifully carved pumpkin, which he had hollowed out and filled with water. Four small silvery fish were inside. He promised to return to the Princess before the fish had fully grown.
The Princess adored her gift. She hollowed out a small pond in a clearing and returned every day. As the fish grew, the time apart from her beloved diminished.
The summer was long and dry, though. One morning, when she arrived at the pond, she found it dry. Three of the fish were dead. As she wept uncontrollably, her tears kept the one remaining fish alive.

Her grief greatly distressed her father. Sagem called a meeting at which it was decided a lake was needed for Princesses' fish. The strongest and most skilled brave was instructed to shoot an arrow. When it fell, the spot was marked. The brave shot 3 more arrows to mark the remaining boundaries for the lake. Then, squaws, using clamshells as shovels, dug a hole within the boundaries, which was then filled by fall rains.
The fish thrived in the lake and Princess Scargo resumed her wait for her lover. As promised, he returned before the fish had matured, and they were married soon after. They continued to live along the shore of Scargo Lake, where the descendants of the silvery fish-a token of love-still swim.

It's Officially Here!!

Just wanted to say Happy Saturday! Today is the first offical day of my vacation. I have 9 whole days home :) I am hoping for a slow week! I don't want the time to go too quickly! I have a long list of things I want to get done. Let's see how the week progresses.

When I got up this morning I noticed that the flowers I got from my Secret Valentine were opened up and so pretty. I thought I'd share. Isn't wonderful how flowers can warm the heart on the coldest of days!

Take care,
Dawn :)

A Farewell to a Fish

Spongebob went the way of the last fish. After a mere 6 days he left us. The funeral was private and the grieving was kept to a minimal.

Poor Timmy has had three fish die in the last week and a half. I have promised him that we would get a new fish in the next week. We knew SPongebob was on the way out since he hadn't eaten in three days and was getting a white film on his scales.

I think we will start fresh. We'll have a new bowl, marbles; the works! I think the last two have come from a bad batch.

So alas, Spongebob, we bid you a fond farewell!!!

A Snow Day!

I felt like a stalker last night checking out all of the local TV stations school closing reports. Finally about 7:30 I got my official call. There was NO SCHOOL today. Actually it is very pretty out there. I went out this morning to take a few pictures. Rich and Timmy were shoveling the driveway. I think it won't be long before Timmy is able to really put the effort into helping. It is a "blue" job as my friend Ingrid calls it! I am very agreeable to that!!!

Timmy couldn't wait to get outside this morning. He got his coat, snowpants, gloves, boots and hat on. It reminded of the poor little boy in A Christmas Story! He grabbed a few toys and then the shovel. While Rich was clearing the driveway Timmy thought it a good idea to make a few snowballs to throw at dad!

Let It Snow!

I was beginning to think that this winter was going to be a let down. Last winter we had one strom with 30" of snow. Finally, we are getting our snow this winter. I woke up to a nice white covering of snow this morning. It is supposed to snow all day. We are supposed to get 12"-18" of snow by nightfall. Timmy made it out for a bit this morning and made a few snow angels on the deck.

Timmy took out some of his toys to play with and enjoyed throwing snowballs at the house. Soon it got to be too cold for him and wanted to come in. At least the snowpants and boots I bought this year didn't go to waste! I was beginning to think I had wasted the money buying them. I'm so glad it snowed. Nothing beats being a kid and having it snow!

Happy 100th Day!

Today was the 100th day of school. That means only 80 more to go. We had our 100 day celebration today. It's so exciting for the kids to see our days in school number change to 100. One of my favorite projects is to have the children makes pictures of themselves showing what they think they will look like when they are 100 years old. I ask the kids to tell me what they will be doing when they are 100 years old. Some of the answers are so funny. One boy said that he would be bumping into walls and probably be blind. One of the girls said she'd "probably have one of the sticks, a can, yup, a cane". My favorite one was a little girls who said, "When I am 100 years old I will be the best grandma, just like mine". How sweet is that!!!!

Today was also the day in school we began our secret valentines. This is for the staff and not the kids, though I feel like a kid when I do this every year. I don't know if today's gift, or the fact that my secret valentine was so clever about giving it to my was my favorite part. I found a heart in my mailbox with a note that said,

"Good Morning Dawn.
The time has come for Secret Valentine Cheer,
Can you guess who your is this year???

Looking to be treated,
Go to the place where visitors are greated!!!"

I went to the front desk to find a bag for me. Inside was a jar of candy and a beautiful little mini iris plant.

Each day for the next four days we will be exchanging gifts with our secret valentine. Its so much fun and a great morale booster.

take care,

Dawn

A Sad Update

We are very sad this afternoon. When we got home from school today Timmy noticed that his new fish, Patrick, had died. We only had him for three days. Patrick will now spend the rest of eternity by Philip's side. After the heartbreak we went out and bought another fish. We are hoping that SpongeBob will have a long, healthy life.

A Fish Tale February 7, 2006

Last Friday, much to the dismay of Timmy, his pet Beta fish died. We had Philip for almost 2 ½ years. I knew it wouldn't be long before he left this world. Timmy couldn't bear his grief and asked me to bury him. While he and Rich went to pick up dinner I went out in the dark, in the rain and buried poor Philip in our garden. I did say a few words, per Timmy's request. On Saturday we took a trip to the local pet store and Timmy picked out a new fish. At first his name was going to be TAK (after one of his video games). Then, he thought about naming the fish Spongebob Squarepants. When he thought about having to write the name he changed his mind again.

We are please to introduce the world to Patrick the fish!!

I'm home from school today. Last week I hurt my back. I don't know how but it's been almost a week now and it's so sore. I have been living with a heat pack on my back for some relief.

I've become addicted to sudoku. I can't stop playing it. I found this site online http://www.websudoku.com/ and just love playing this game. I admit I haven't tried too many of the puzzles that are beyond easy...that's my next step. I keep a sudoku book by my bed and do a few each night.
