Summer Reading

Tim finished fifth grade this year and next school year he will move over to the middle school.  This year our school district (where I teach and Tim attends) came out with a summer reading list for Kindergarten through 12th grade.  Tim's list is required summer reading.  Each of the fifth grade students were given a copy of Island of the Blue Dolphin from the PTA as a kind of "graduation" to the middle school.

Of course Tim was not thrilled to have to read this summer.  Is he truly my son??????  He is a good reader too.  He just never wants to start a book.  When he is done reading, he has enjoyed the book.  I told him that I would read with him.  So, every couple of days we sit and take turns reading a chapter to each other.  We should be done with this book next week.

He has two required books.  We will read the next one in August.

I haven't been reading much of my own.  I did read
The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner:
An Eclipse Novella

I think I will read The Host next.  I have had it since last summer and haven't started it.

take care,
Dawn

I know how much you love to read, and so do I. Unfortunately, like you, I haven't found much time for reading lately.

Our little guy keeps his nose in a book. He loves it. I always tell him that the apple didn't fall far from the tree.

Oh, I remember that book... Wow, flash back in time! Do hope Tim will enjoy it. (GREAT photo of him in your previous post--such fun!) When hubby & I were in the US in May we went to a favorite book store, and I was browsing the children's books looking for something for our young niece, and in the young adult section noticed just how many different books there are to those I read in my youth--it was interesting to see what's being read now. Happy Weekend to all of you, Dawn ((HUGS))

Hi Dawn,

I absolutely LOVE to read and Lexi HATES it! I am like you and wonder HOW could I have a child that doesn't enjoy reading!?!? I do "make" her read all summer long though.

I am thinking about getting the Short Second Life of Bree Tanner....how was it?

Oh, and about the Host. It is REALLY slow getting started. When I read it I almost put it down several times, but I persisted and then it got GREAT and you COULDN'T put it down. So, just stick with it and I think you will REALLY enjoy it.♥

Hi Dawn, I, too, am an avid reader, but neither of my kids really like it! I sometimes wonder if they were switched at birth! LOL! ...even my husband enjoys reading! He reads more for "substance," than I do, though! I read for entertainment! LOL!

Hope you are having a wonderful summer! I missed seeing you in blogland. :) ...and thanks for visiting my blog(s)!!! :)

Hi Dawn, we just returned today from our camping vacation. I saw your email too late to vote for Brittany. I would have loved to vote for her. She does have a wonderful sense of humor and IS a very good writer. What was the result if the vote?

Tim is so cute and is really growing up. Love that photo. His cooking sounds delicious. It looks good too. Smile. way to go Tim. My grandson loves to cook.

This is short, we are worn out from our week of camping. My bed sounds like heaven right now.

Love ya, Jeanne

I love to read, but sometimes, I need to "space out."

I hope your summer is going well.
I really haven't read a book lately for some time actually...I've been reading magazines though.

I love reading! I'm surprised Tim doesn't. I know this will come as a big surprise, but there is an award for you on my blog.

When purchasing a new home, it is important to research as many possible properties as you can. If you remain focused on only one home, you probably will not get the best deal for your money. Go to as many open houses as you can and keep an open mind about what you are looking for.

Many people think this is the best way to make their coffee hot; the truth is that the only thing this does is diminish its flavor. You should be using water that is not only cold, but charcoal filtered if possible.

Practice dribbling while you switch your body's momentum from one side to the other. Expect to encounter many different situations in a game. You need to feel as comfortable with defense closing in on you, as you do in the open court. It helps to master control of your body as you dribble in a variety of positions. This will help get you out of jams quickly.
