Birth Order

Where do you fall in your family's birth order? I am the oldest of three girls and I think the description of the oldest child fits me pretty well! I am very responsible. I don't like to make waves. I'm driven and a perfectionist. My husband would call that controlling!!!

I refer to my children as my two only children since Brittainy was 18 and out of the house when Tim was born.

I know there are hundreds of studies on this topic. It is always fun for me to read and see how accurate I think the results can be.

This is just one I found on the web:

Oldest

_ Responsible
_ Conservative
_ Doesn’t make waves
_ Follows parents’ wishes
_ Emotionally intense
_ Authoritarian
_ Perfectionist
_ Driven
_ Surrogate parent
_ Leadership material

Middle

_ Peacemaker
_ Negotiator
_ Highly attuned to needs of others
_ Doesn’t like to follow authority
_ Creative
_ Independent
_ Peer-focused
_ “Chameleon”

Youngest
_ Comical/entertaining
_ Highly social
_ Laid back
_ Dependent
_ Creative
_ Unconventional
_ Few expectations of self

(from parenthood.com)
What do you think? Does it fit your place in your family's birth order?
take care,
Dawn

Does being an only child make you the oldest, or does it make you "something special'? Something special - that's me.

Oldest description fits you to a "T".

I'm the oldest too Dawn...and it seems that the other too descriptions fit my brother (middle) and sister (youngest) to a t!
I may have to get that magazine!

Dawn, your post is so interesting. I am trying to figure out where I stand in the mix. I am the second oldest of six. Do I place myself as the middle of the first three? My sister , The fifth child, calls herself between the only boy and the baby. She thinks that was not the best place to be. I might agree, there are no baby pictures of her. sigh

Great post, thanks.

Love ya, Jeanne

Hi Dawn!
I saw your blog link on Diane's page and thought I'd stop by and say "Hi!" I'm the oldest of three girls, too, and it totally describes me to a tee. However, it doesn't really describe my youngest sister at all. She is more like me for some reason. I am the mother of an only child. did it say anything about their personalities? Very interesting stuff!

I am the oldest of three. Not sure I agree with what it says about the middle child & the baby. My sister has some middle child issues... and so does her middle child. And my baby brother... he could get away with anything. :) But it's always neat to read the studies... even if I dont always agree. xoxo, Joanna

I'm the oldest of two. That description "almost" has me pegged. I would not say I'm "leadership material"! And I'm definitely not "conservative" politically, but am in other ways, if that makes any sense. I also see that both middle and youngest have "creative" listed, and that's one trait I think I do have.

As for my own kids, some of it definitely fits, but some of it definitely doesn't.
