Pretty eyes in the summer morn...they call her DAWN

I suppose it is no big surprise that back in the early 70's I had a Dawn doll. I loved that doll. Up until then I was a big fan of Barbie. I remember sitting in our big bedroom closet with my sister playing Barbie dolls. My mother often reminds me of all the Barbie clothes she knit for me that I gave away. I still have guilt over that!!!

Back to Dawn. Dawn was about half the size of Barbie and quite stunning. My sister and I had several of the dolls. I used to think I was quite the seamstress and try to "sew" clothes for her since Barbie's clothes were just too big. I don't know what happened to my Barbies and Dawn dolls. I suppose they are in the big playroom in the sky by now :)

About a year ago I was in a local pharmacy (CVS) and I came across a Dawn doll. There wasn't even a question about it, so I bought it! I was thinking how nice it would be to give to Mackenzie when she was older. Mackenzie however would rather have some of the old trucks and trains I had that are gone to the great beyond as well. Someday if her tastes in toys change Dawn will be here waiting for her.

take care,
the "other" Dawn

Oh, I bet she will appreciate it as she gets older....especially if you tell her the story about your doll! Great idea by the way!

Dawn, you're exquisite. Of course, I knew that.

I have a little something for you on my blog. Tag!!! Love you.

Oh my gosh...I'd forgotten all about Dawn dolls!

Try not to be too upset if Mackenzie never comes around. Annie's grandmother loved Barbies and gave Annie a few "special" ones over the years. Annie NEVER showed the slightest interest...instead she went from trucks and tractors to dinosaurs and prehistoric mammals. Never hit a "doll phase" at all.

mackenzie is weird about dolls. she wont play with baby dolls, but she "mothers" kitty. she does play with plastic dolls that are smaller than barbies, (calls them her "girls"), but doesnt like barbies. i think the smaller ones fit in her hand better.

there's always jack! (dont tell jay!)

Your Dawn doll is so pretty. I believe Kenzie will appreciate the doll with her grandmother's name as time goes by. On the other hand, my girls never liked dolls, no matter how hard I tried. I was always a girly girl, but not my girls, they only had boys in the neighbored to play with. Only time will tell. Kinzie is a beautiful little girl and maybe that is enough. :)

Love ya, Jeanne

Dawn your Dawn doll is so pretty. I found a barbie from the time I had one when I was little. And at a antique shop I found a Barbie case just like the one I had when I was little. I almost fainted when I saw it, the whole store heard me yell. Poor hubby.

Hey I used to have those dolls too! We had like 4 of them in the house but by the time I got to them they were half naked with hair that never seemed to look nice! Darn those Wilkey girls!

My mother bought a huge lot of Dawn dolls with a zillion outfits in their carrying case @ a thrift store in the early 70's. She waited to give them to me until I was old enough to treat them well. Sometime in the mid 70's. And how I loved them. One of my alltime favorite childhood toys. Thanks for bringing back great memories.
