Friday's Favorite Family Fotos

Deborah of Pictures Pots and Pens is hosting Friday's Favorite Family Fotos. Hop on over and see who else is participating and take a look at every one's family photos.

This picture was taken on January 25, 2005. It would have been my father's birthday. Tim never met my father because he died three years before Tim was born. I want him to know about his grandfather so on this day we were making a cake to celebrate grandpa's birthday. This is Tim standing on a chair mixing the cake.

What struck me most about this birthday that year was ALL THE SNOW we got. I think we had almost 30 inches. That doesn't happen often here on Cape Cod! My dad worked for the highway department and would be out plowing the roads during snow storms. Boy would he have loved that one!! Look at Tim in all this snow that day.

When we made the cake for my dad we thought it would be appropriate on this particular birthday to have white "snow" frosting and a plow on the cake for him.

I am sad that my father never got to meet or know Tim. I know they would have gotten along so well.

take care,
Dawn

That is so neat to keep his memory alive for your son by honoring him with a cake on his birthday. I think with all that snow it was a great cake!!

That snow is beautiful....I have never lived anywhere that it snowed much at all. We get enough occasionally to play in and build a small snowman but nothing like that....WOW!

Thinking of my father and him being gone makes me sad, too. I do find comfort in knowing that he is now well and with God.

Hi Dawn,
That is a great way to keep your dad's memory alive. Even though he didn't meet him, he knows a lot about his heritage I bet!

Wow...that is some kind of snow. We are lucky if we get an inch or two every three or four years here. Last winter Connor saw his first snow and he is 5! Everything shuts down in Mississippi when it snows...including school:) LOL

Your son is a cutie. "Introducing" him to your father is a valuable idea.

Good idea for a cake, and I love your blue cake plate!

As for snow: no thank you! I grew up in the cold, and I want no more of it.

What a great cake Dawn-I love how you are keeping memories alive for Tim.

During one of your snowstorms I was on my way to the cape! What an experience that was... YIKES! But we wouldn't turn around... we were after all coming to "Croppin' on the Cape"...so we were just like the mailman and not willing to "let a little weather make us turn back" ;) LOL

Wouldn't your dad have loved that cake!

My mother just passed away this past December...I'm trying to keep her real to my two, three and five year old grandchildren ... sometimes, they forget. She didn't get to see my fourth grandchild, but I plan to tell him all about her.

Thank you for sharing Tim's cute picture and the wonderful idea.

Hugs,
Deborah

Super idea, having him help bake a cake. You can share memories of your dad, and make new memories at the same time!

Bless your heart Dawn; I know how you feel, my Mom passed just three months before her first great grandchild was born, how sad and happy we all were when she arrived. Tim looks so sweet in his spider man pjs.
That is a lot of snow, as a teacher you got some snow days..... yeah I loved snow days..

Have a great weekend.

A big Hugs;

I am sad he didn't get to meet Tim, too, but happy that you have made sure he lives on in Tim's heart. I love that you baked him a cake together on such a snowy day!

Hi Dawn
This is Claudie...new to all of this. Lovely memories of your dad..My dad has been gone now for over 35 years and not one day goes by without thinking of him and talking to him every night. None of my children had the chance to meet him but I talk about him all the time and have tons of pictures all over the house.
P.S. Thank you for the input on my new site, I have spent many hours this evening fixing the problems so please check it out again and let me know what you think.
Hugs

What a lovely tribute to your sweet father. I am sure that Tim will cherish these special moments with you and know his grandpa through the joy on your face when you talk of him. :) Thanks for sharing your memories. :)

Dawn, I can't believe I didn't visit you yesterday. I adore your story about Tim and the snow. The photo of him making the cake is priceless. I think that celebration was such a wonderful tribute to your dad. The snow pic is a wow! I have lived most of my life in Fl. so snow like that is amazing. I do remember snow in MI and sometimes our back door of the farm house would be snowed in. My dad would dig a tunnel so we could get out of the back door. Nice post.

Love, Jeanne
