Five Little Snowmen

Back in 2003 I was looking for some Christmas projects to do with my kindergarten class and I found this idea. I have made this with the kids every year since and it goes home to their families as a Christmas gift. The year I made them with my children I also made MANY with Tim. I have several of them just in case they break! I also have his on red, blue and green balls. I only have a picture with the red one right now.

To make the ornament I buy a glass ball for each of the children. Then I paint the palm of their hand white with acrylic paint. I place the ball in their hand and ever so gently they close their hand around the ball. When the white paint dries they use paint pens and sharpies to decorate their fingers to look like snowmen.

I attach the following poem to the ornament. (Of course you change the year. This is from the ornament I made in 2003)

These aren't just five snowmen
As any one can see.
I made them with my hand
Which is a part of me
Now each year when you trim the tree
You'll look back and recall
Christmas of 2003
When my hand was just this small.

take care,
Dawn

Dawn, the ornament is beautiful. I know your touch was very involved helping the children paint them. The poem is perfect. Clever, clever idea.

Well decorating just didn't happen here yesterday after all. My dtr. was visiting for the weekend from TN. so I decided to invite my sisters and families to dinner. There went the day, but we had a great time and my dtr, was so happy to visit with her Aunts etc.

Today we are under severe storm warnings. Everything is white with snow. A good day to decorate.

Hugs...Jeanne

Dawn, this is adorable. You are the most special teacher in the whole wide world.

And, a very good friend, too.

Oh Dawn, you are an amazing teacher of kindergarten children! What a treasure you're making for the parents to have for years and years to come. My DIL didn't want the felt ornament that my first born grandchild made at school, and she sweetly suggested that Lauren present it to me. I treasure that and hang it each year.

Dawn! I absolutely love this! If you don't mind I'm going to share this with my son's K teacher (and she's one of my bff's too) and see if this is something she'd be interested in doing with the kids this year. I'll even donate the glass balls. Would you say one color works better then the others. I can just see this is blue!
I'm sooo excited! Thanks so much for sharing this idea/craft/memory. Hugs and I hope you have a fab day!

I'm glad you had a good Thanksgiving...and I guess we all had a little too much to each. Oh well.
Have a lovely day

Hi Dawn, I just love the ornaments--such a simple idea that becomes a precious keepsake. I bet the kids love dipping their hands in the paint too!

Thank you Dawn for being the teacher that cares! I applaud all the extra things like that you do for your kids. Those are adorable; it would be a good family activity, and would mean so much to Mom's everywhere.

Hi Dawn,

To answer your question, no it wasn't really a B/D gift for Alan, it just so happened to fall on the day before his B/D. I actually LOVE that band and play the CD's all Christmas long. He just "likes" them and gets dragged along!

THATS A COOL IDEA--PAINT ON GLASS ORNAMENT BALLS. I NEVER THOUGHT OF THAT,,,

ITS KINDA LIKE PAINTING EASTER EGGS BUT YOU DONT HAVE TO BOIL IT FIRST :-)
